The second season of “Orange Is the New Black” arrives Friday with some new characters, an expanded focus in the microcosm that is the Litchfield Penitentiary for women and an even deeper.
The last season of the Netflix prison drama picked up seconds after the events of Season 4, when the inmates of Litchfield prison had gotten hold of a gun and taken control of the facility in the wake of Poussey’s death. The entirety of Season 5 took place over three days as the prisoners ran amok with power. Slack pacing and unfocused storylines garnered negative reviews from several critics. Now series creator Jenji Kohan has revealed in a New Yorker profile that she wasn’t that pleased with the Netflix series’ last effort either.
Kohan described some of the plots of last season as “fan fiction” — a product of losing some of the show’s original writers as they moved up in the ranks and hiring on new blood. Teri Herrmann, Kohan’s right hand on Orange who usually runs the writers’ room, was a little bit kinder in explaining what went wrong for the fifth season. It was just a new dynamic — people were attached to the characters as viewers, not as creators. Only two from that season’s room were rehired for the next season.
That means that there will once again be a new set of scribes for the show as many of the prisoners have been separated in different prisons, which leaves Kohan and Herrmann a lot of room to reinvent the show and bring it back to form.

‘Orange Is The New Black’ and the meaning of love
A popular and old and perhaps outdated but overused trope to justify Kill the Cutie. The child will be certainly an Ill Girl , and frequently a Waif Prophet , whose death will be slow, torturous and lingering tuberculosis or other disease was a particular favorite in the 19th Century , giving the child a chance to bid farewell to everyone she loved in a long, drawn-out drama scene. Sometimes she gets to speak a few last words to hammer in An Aesop relevant to the larger plot at hand.
After she’s breathed her last, her loss is mourned by all who knew her — in particularly extreme cases even the Big Bad will take a moment to reflect on it — and may serve to re-energize tired or disillusioned heroes to fight on for her cause.

House of Cards is a great success, but Orange is the New Black is a phenomenon. Every life, every character has a story to tell. The way it is told makes the series even more powerful. Poussey Washington was a unique character, a breaker of stereotypes. Her conversation with Judy King when she tells her about her family and knowledge of three languages is a great scene in Season 4. More importantly, Poussey was a rebel, a wildfire, a lover and a friend who was God-sent.

Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black has had some real highs and lows over the show’s six seasons. Poussey’s death? Heartbreaking. how dating shows got weird.
But while fans rejoice that the show has returned, creator Jenji Kohan revealed some slightly bad news. The writer and producer admitted she hasn’t really decided what the plan is beyond “Orange is the New Black” season 7 but she is certain the seventh is a crucial year. An ending in mind or a reboot? Jenji Kohan said she zeroed in on seven because this was the number guaranteed by Netflix when the streaming site renewed the show up to that point last year.
Kohan also said she’s “leaning towards ending” the series and she even has an ending in mind. Kohan, however, refuses to reveal what this will most likely involve. Ending “Orange is the New Black” in its seventh year might be a good idea given how much Piper’s Taylor Schilling story has deviated. When Piper’s storyline shifted in season 3, viewers got the chance to peek into the lives of rest of the women prisoners at the Litchfield Penitentiary.
Jenji Kohan said that if the show goes beyond season 7, then this means they will have to keep on bringing in new people to keep the story fresh. It’s also possible “Orange is the New Black” could reboot after season 7, which means Piper could eventually leave. Top Videos of the Day The show picks up right after the events of season 4 where a riot is brewing following the accidental death of Poussey Samira Wiley. The whole of “Orange is the New Black” season 5 will supposedly take place in just a span of a three-day timeline and no one is safe in the women’s prison, including the guards.
Orange Is the New Black’s Poussey could have lived
It was 9 degrees on Fifth Avenue, and I wore New Balances and a pair of wool socks — but I sucked it up because this was the climax of their season-long arc: A scene where both characters are finally forced to be honest after months of lying to each other. It was a scene I’d written with words shamelessly borrowed from my own life, and as I watched Jason Biggs repeat “I don’t know if you can,” after Piper begs him to let her fix her mistakes, the world around me swirled in a dizzying blur of life imitating art.

According to Morelli , it was writing scenes for Piper and Alex that gave her clarity on her own sexuality. I realized I was gay in fall , one of my first days on the set. It wasn’t so much one thing, but the sum of many small details: Wanting to read a book instead of have sex is a perfectly reasonable preference to have, right? But on set, these small moments came into sharp relief, and I found myself answering to an endless stream of cast members who peppered me with questions like a gaggle of kindergartners curious about their new teacher.
Holy shit, am I gay? TMZ goes on to report that the divorce has gone amicably following the couple’s two years of marriage, with Morelli keeping her Lexus and her ex-husband getting the Mazda hatchback, etc.

I was delighted to become reacquainted with Natasha Lyonne. I wrote love letters in my mind to Samira Wiley, whose shy smile still turns my knees to jelly. I had spent the majority of the last 12 months vowing to never watch OITNB again, to burn any mention of the show to ground and salt the earth upon which it once stood.
But, as June began to rear its head, I felt a pull to see where the show would go. Would the production have learned any lessons from last year? Could I really walk away from the queer, trans, feminist, Latina, and black cast members who I had let into my heart over the last few years?
